Only the best for our guests...

...and at the same time, we take a holistic approach and work in harmony with nature at the hotel. We want to operate sustainably because it's the only strategy to ensure a good and worthwhile future for our children and grandchildren.

Nachhaltigkeitskonzept

Electricity from 100% renewable energy

Photovoltaics and EV Charging Station
We installed our photovoltaic system in 2018 and have since saved 32 tons of CO2. That's the equivalent of planting 820 trees or traveling 129,000 kilometers by car. Our public EV charging station has a charging capacity of 11 kWh. So, you can refuel with real solar power here! This service is free for hotel guests.

Hydropower is our ace!
We receive 100% of the rest of our electricity from Austria, so no nuclear power either. Two-thirds of this electricity is generated in hydroelectric power plants, the rest comes from PV systems, so there are no fossil fuels...kind of nice.

Pellets instead of oil

We took advantage of the miserable Corona winter. We were lucky and were able to replace the old oil heating system. I emptied and cut out the oil tank myself, a horrible job. And then finally, the new heating was installed– a real holiday for me personally. Now the heating system smells of wood. Yes, the pellet system does require a bit more work. I'm happy to invest this time and save around 50,000 kg of CO2 every year.

Organic Delights

At Castello Königsleiten, we get the vast majority of our food from organic farming and, above all, from the region. Yes, this is more expensive for us as a business, as the cost of goods is much higher. We are happy to invest this money in the health of our producers, guests, and employees. Only advantages for all of us: The regional offering enriches our food and beverage with many facets of fresh and seasonal products.

  • Transparency and participation

We compiled our first Common Good Balance Sheet in 2019 and are improving daily.

These are our greatest contributions to protecting our environment. Of course, there are also many smaller approaches and great partners, such as Maria Pieper's natural cosmetics, or the fact that the hotel's cleaning is primarily done with soft soap. We can compost organic waste, and other waste is separated. Eggshells and old bread are fed to our chickens, as they need the lime from the shells for their new eggs. All lighting has been converted to LEDs, and flow restrictors have been installed in all rooms.

In general, it must be said that people used to live very environmentally friendly in former times.

The planet's resources are finite. Energy was expensive when we were children, so we turned off the lights. Food was expensive, so we shopped carefully and used up everything. That's how we learned it—and that's how we want to teach our children, too.

....and then there was

Our garden

Our small garden is close to nature. It offers space for relaxation, has beds for herbs and vegetables, and bees and other insects also find food and quiet places to nest. I have a special respect for the busy bumblebee. I always meet it very early at 5 a.m. while watering, and our paths cross again late in the evening while collecting snails. To be continued....
