How large is the ski area and what runs are available?
The Zillertal Arena is one of Austria's largest ski resorts, with 150 km of slopes, 51 lifts and runs at altitudes between 580 and 2,500 metres. The area caters to all ability levels, from wide, gentle slopes for beginners and families to challenging black runs for experts. Thanks to the high altitude, snow conditions are reliable from December to April, and snowmaking systems ensure excellent conditions even in low-snow years.
Is Königsleiten suitable for families with young children?
Königsleiten and the Biohotel Castello are ideal for families with children of all ages. The Bärencamp offers professional childcare on a half- or full-day basis, so parents can enjoy the slopes without worry. The hotel has a spacious lounge area with plenty of board games for the whole family. The Zillertal Arena is one of Austria's most family-friendly ski resorts, with dedicated children's ski parks, gentle practice slopes and kids' lifts right next to the pistes. The hotel offers family rooms and holiday apartments for up to 7 people.
Is there a ski school and ski hire nearby?
Yes, both are within easy walking distance of the hotel. Ski schools in Königsleiten and Gerlos offer lessons for beginners and advanced skiers in German, English and Dutch — for children from age 3 and adults. The local ski hire shop stocks modern skis, snowboards and helmets; advance booking is recommended. You'll be on the slopes from your very first day without losing any time. Ski hire & ski schools>>
What else is there to do in winter besides skiing?
A winter holiday in Königsleiten offers far more than skiing. Sledging on one of the longest toboggan runs in the world, snowshoe hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park, classic cross-country skiing or skating on 3 trails around Königsleiten — the options are endless. Particularly popular are ski tours in the Zillertal Alps, wildlife watching in the Habachtal valley until March, and alpaca trekking through the winter landscape near the Krimml Waterfalls. Snow tubing at the Gerlosstein rounds off the fun for the whole family.
When does the ski season start and how reliable is the snow?
The winter season in the Zillertal Arena typically runs from early December to late April. Königsleiten sits at around 1,600 metres above sea level, with the highest peaks of the Zillertal Arena reaching 2,500 metres — placing it among the most snow-reliable resorts in Austria. State-of-the-art snowmaking systems on the main runs guarantee good conditions even in low-snow winters. The Biohotel Castello typically opens for the winter season in early December; current opening dates are available on our website or on request.

Two EV charging stations are available for guests with electric vehicles. Full directions and public transport connections can be found on our "Location & Arrival" page. What makes Königsleiten different from other resorts in the Zillertal Arena?
Königsleiten is the highest village in the Zillertal Arena at around 1,600 metres, offering the best snow reliability in the entire ski network. The village usually has natural snow, children can play freely in the snow around the village, and cleared winter walking paths make for easy strolls through the forest. Unlike the larger, livelier towns of Zell am Ziller or Gerlos, Königsleiten is a peaceful, family-friendly mountain village — perfect for guests seeking rest and nature. The ski-in/ski-out location, proximity to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Krimml Waterfalls, and the bio-certified hotel with allergy-friendly rooms make Königsleiten a true insider tip for mindful travellers.
